Overview

The Validation Sprint is ideal for teams who have already shaped their ideas. It combines in-person workshops, online learning and remote coaching to help an innovation team validate their business idea. Over a 12-week period of intense testing the team will drastically reduce the risk of a business idea that won’t deliver on expectations and prepare it for further investment.

Preparation

Week 1 - 4

The Preparation phase is all about engaging stakeholders, and aligning on key success factors. At the end of the Preparation phase all participants and stakeholders will have a clear understanding of what they can expect from the Validation Sprint, and what’s expected from them.

Phase Breakdown
  • Alignment meeting with leadership team to discuss leadership involvement expected in the Validation Sprint
  • Alignment meeting(s) at operational level to discuss project success factors and resources, and review the plan and roles & responsibilities of different stakeholders
  • Set up of infrastructure and logistics for webinar and workshop.
  • Kick-off webinar with all participants to set goals & expectations and introduce the team to their coach and toolkit.

Validation Workshop

Week 5

In the 2-day validation workshop the 3 to 5 selected teams will familiarize themselves with the testing process they will go through in Validation phase to test the remaining critical hypotheses underlying their Business Model and Value Proposition. Together with their coach they will create their testing plan for the next 12 weeks.

Testing

Week 6-17

In the Testing phase, teams will further de-risk their ideas by designing experiments to test the next batch of critical hypotheses underlying their Business Model and Value Proposition. In an iterative process they will go back and forth between designing and testing their ideas. The insights they gain from testing will help them make data-driven decisions.

Phase Breakdown
  • Design of experiments with guidance from their coach
  • Several rounds of experiments to validate or refute the hypotheses
  • Documentation of findings in the Strategyzer App
  • Preparation of pitch with feedback from their coach
  • Submission of video pitch or live presentation, 7-10mins, to leadership team and/or growth board

  • Business model decisions by the team: shelve the idea, pivot or persevere

Transition from Validation to Acceleration

Week 18 (Optional)

The leadership team and/or growth board will decide whether the team should continue to the Acceleration phase with the support of the Strategyzer team if needed.

  • Leadership team and/or growth board assess idea based on the video or live presentation and decide whether they should invest further in team / idea

Coaching

  • Face-to-face workshops led by experienced Strategyzer coaches.
